About Us
Sisters Network of Tampa Bay Affiliate Chapter is an African American Breast Cancer Survivorship and an Affiliate Chapter of Sisters Network®, Inc where over 40 chapters across the United States as well as 3 within the State of Florida. We are the only national recognized African American Breast Cancer Organization.
Our mission for the Tampa Bay area is to increase local awareness and attention to the devastating impact that breast cancer has in the African American Community. We accomplish our mission through several outreach activities.
First, we participate in health fairs, seminars, conferences and other community activities dissemination breast health awareness information and education. This education also focuses on early detection through monthly self-breast examinations, clinical exams and yearly mammograms.
Secondly, we execute our Pink Ribbon Awareness Initiative. This is a religious based educational outreach program, speaking to women attending churches with information on how to access breast care services and utilize community resources. The focus of this outreach is to increase the number of women obtaining mammograms and increase their general knowledge. We are available to attend as speakers for any event.
Thirdly, our Annual "Gift For Life Block Walk" where we collaborate with organizations and community groups to coordinate the promotion of breast health awareness in the African American Community. This innovative promotion allows breast cancer survivors and volunteers to canvas door-to-door in under-served communities and distributes breast health education information, a resource list as well as pink ribbons.
