Cancer is in my family history, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, and my mother had breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and cancer of the spine when she passed away on November 25, 2000. On February 25, 2009 I began my fight with surgery and 37 treatments of radiation which cause skin burns. After healing, I attended a breakfast with SISTAHS of Tampa Bay and that's when I learned about Sisters Network of Tampa Bay. About a month later my three sisters and I attended one of Sisters Network monthly meetings and with the information given we decided that Sisters Network was for us. That was one of the best things I could have done because I needed that support. It has been rough but I thank God that I am still here and that I can help others that have cancer and share my experiences with them. I will always remember to look at the positive rather than the negative because battling cancer has its own challenge. As a survivor I want to encourage people who have been diagnosed with cancer. No matter how loving or supportive your family, friends, and medical teams are. They don't understand what you are feeling quite like those who have experienced your situation. I am a supportive cancer survivor eager to share with others what I have learned through my journey with breast cancer.
