Our mission for the Tampa Bay area is to increase local awareness and attention to the devastating impact that breast cancer has on the African American Community. We accomplish our mission through several outreach activities.
First, we participate in health fairs, seminars, conferences, and other community activities to promote breast health awareness information and education. This education focuses on early detection through monthly self-breast examinations, clinical exams, and yearly mammograms.
Second, we execute our Pink Ribbon Awareness Initiative ("Pink Sunday"). This is a religious based educational outreach program, speaking to women attending churches with information on how to access breast care services and utilize community resources. The focus of this outreach is to increase the number of women obtaining mammograms and increase their general knowledge. We are available to attend as speakers for any event.
Third, our Annual "Gift For Life Block Walk," where we collaborate with local organizations to coordinate the promotion of breast health awareness in the African American Community. This innovative promotion has breast cancer survivors and volunteers canvassing door-to-door in underserved communities to distribute breast health education information and community resources, followed by a local group discussion.
Lastly, we provide support locally for our BCAP (breast cancer assistance program),
Think Pink and Black, and Let's "Stop the Silence"!!
Note: Sisters Network Tampa Bay is an education and support organization; we are NOT Doctors and have NO medical training.
